No Date 31/3/10
An early mail this week due to the fact that it’s bank holiday weekend, and that means there’s ale to be quaffed on Thursday night, thereby rendering me incapable of typed communication for the next 3 days. It’s a busy little schedule, so get yer drinkin’ pants on!
Going Out
Don’t forget (he probably has), Old Man Thirsty becomes a sexagenarian this weekend…he’s actually a quinquagenarian, but who’s counting? Any road up, a leisurely half of mild is no doubt called for, and in true old man style, Thirsty has opted for a quiet night at the Albert this Thursday evening. So, rev up your bath-chairs, grease your zimmers, and shuffle your mortal coils down to the lower end of PSM. If it’s not a rockin’ night out, I’ll eat Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi’s denim thunder-crackers. Rock ’til you drop Thirsty (work)….see what I did there you little Quo groupie?
Coming Out
Young Rossco seems to have got in touch with his feminine side (at last). At least that’s the latest claim from the ‘man’ himself who reckons he’s now had a tash for 21 years! I don’t personally remember seeing a Freddie Mercury look-a-like wandering the pitch on match days but regardless, in order to celebrate the longevity of his lip-ferret, he’s having a bit of a coming-out tache-bash at the Bay after the match on 10th April. And, to reinforce his new found sexuality, he’s gone for a timeless pink theme. Now I’m not one to cast aspersions, and it’s possible that I could have misinterpreted some of Ross’ original message, but that’s the message I’ve been getting. I’ve reproduced his original message:
“Its my Tash’s 21st soon and would like to host a pink event after the game on the 10th of April at the Bay. Apparently some pink attire is compulsory and obviously it’s a Nomads open invite!”
Draw your own conclusions!
Stopping In
It’s been pointed out to me that there was a mistake in last week’s ‘No Date’, in that I mistakenly claimed that Drunken Al is arranging a BBQ for Ickle Phil and Helen, when everyone knows that Al couldn’t arrange a piss up in a brewery and has trouble sitting the right way round on the bog. Thanks to Ms Payne for pointing out the error of my ways. It is, of course, the long suffering Laura, and said Ms Payne who have done all the arranging, whilst Al has remained firmly planted on his couch with his finger up his ass as per usual. Many thanks to all those wonderful women, without whom, none of us blokes would manage to dress ourselves in the mornings. In appreciation of their mammoth efforts, let’s get our boilers to get us to said BBQ at 2 p.m. on Friday to say our fond farewells to the diminutive Mr North and his delightful young lady, the gorgeous Helen.
As a reminder, it’s at Easedale, Four Roads, Port St Mary (yellow house, brown door and black railings half way down on the left if you are heading from four roads roundabout towards that café type place thing which used to be a proper pub).
Getting About
I’ve just heard the good news that young Mark Lean is now out of his wheelchair and is managing to get about on crutches. That’s excellent news young Lean. We all sincerely hope your recovery continues and wish you all the very best. Might we see you at Race Night? I do hope so.
Under Orders
As if Thursday night and Friday daytime aren’t enough, our kidneys also have Saturday night at the races to contend with this week. Get up to Rowany and give them organs a right good bashin’ while you bet. Doors open up at 7:30 and livers close down at midnight. This is a SPort Erin spesh, so all support much appreciated. It’ll be a doozy of night – the perfect end to 3 nights on the lash, and the perfect start to another day on the lash – I believe some of the hardcore (Dustbin? Hardcore? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha) are having a few down the Shore on Sunday.
This Weeks Fixtures
Derrrr! Easter! No matches! This does of course mean that A&E won’t be full of broken Nomads this weekend, thereby leaving plenty of them Doctor types available to man the renal unit. Drink! Drink! Drink!*

Dates for the Diary
See above for pre-arranged binge nights.
See Don and Boy Arms for ad-hoc baby binge nights.
See website for future binge nights.
That’s yer lot except to ask if anyone knows that Boy Arms Bailey used to take ballet lessons? Oopsie! Sorry Ross. You really need to get a grip on that blabby wife of yours. Collette…you really need to man-up that husband of yours.
No Date 25/3/10
No banter this week I’m afraid – some of us have real jobs! Yes Ginny, I’m looking at you.
This Week’s Fixtures
Nomads 1sts vs Douglas B (Trophy)
Ramsey B vs Emerging Nomads (Bowl)
The stretcher will no doubt be in attendance assuming it isn’t worn out after last week.
After the games there’s a “Funky, crazy Hawaiian Shirt Night” at the Bay PE. Do they do funky Hawaiian hospital gowns?
Nowt for yoof.
Ickle Phil
As you probably know Phil is leaving the island in a couple of weeks with Helen to follow too soon after. Drunken Al is arranging a little get together to wave him off on Good Friday in the form of a BBQ at his gaff – Easedale, Four Roads Port St Mary. (Yellow house, brown door and black railings half way down on the left if you are heading towards PSM).
So, if you want to have a final Beer and Burger with the little man, then head round to Al’s any time from 2pm on Friday with a case and something to throw on the BBQ. All welcome. No Chilli sauce please.

Senior Fixtures
Well, it’s all change again. I reckon Thirsty must do the fixtures when he gets home from the boozer on a Friday night.
This week’s random changes have resulted in:
Douglas B v Nomads 1sts in the Trophy.
Emerging Nomads v Castletown in the Plate.
You’re spoilt for choice this week as we also have some yoof games as well.
This week’s bangin’ matches are on the website. There’s a slight change in that the under 12 & under 13 games are now at Vaga’s at 2pm.
Yoof Tour
A message from Coach Long and his darling lady, Helen.
End of Season Youth Tour (Under 12 to Under 14)
We have been invited to join Douglas Rugby Club on an end of Season Tour to Liverpool and Manchester in April. All age Groups between Under 12 and Under 14 are invited and it is hoped that together with Douglas we can form an ‘Isle of Man’ Team for each of the four age groups to play matches against Caldy Rugby Club on Saturday 24th April. These Teams will first attend a Sale Sharks Youth Training session we all shall watch the Sale vs Newcastle Premiership game scheduled for that weekend.
The trip will be leaving the Island by boat on the morning of Friday 23rd April (permission from schools will be needed) heading to Liverpool. We will transfer by coach to Manchester were we have a training session booked with the Sale Sharks coaching team following which we go to Edgeley Park to watch Sale take on Newcastle Falcons.
After the match it’s off to the Wirral by coach where we will stay overnight at the Heswall Premier Inn. Matches have been arranged against Caldy on the Saturday morning followed by a BBQ lunch and afternoon at leisure. We will travel back to the Island on the evening boat on Saturday.
Costs are dependent on numbers but I am expecting it to be about £100 per head to include the ferry, coach transfers, accommodation and Sale training/tickets. A deposit of £50 per head is needed to cover up front bookings. Parents are welcome to join us and I’m sure your guys would appreciate seeing some faces they know on the trip.
Parents are welcome to come along if they wish, nevertheless numbers are limited and Douglas need to finalise arrangements over the next ten days, therefore if you would like to attend, please could you ensure that you bring a deposit cheque for £50 to the next training session.
If you were at training on Saturday, you will already have a form to be filled, but if not, please contact Anthony ASAP (strange surname!).

The confirmed tourists are listed on the website. You’ll be shocked to see that the Tight Yorkshire Git managed to jib out at the last minute again. Come on Maltby, go through with it for once….I’m bloody sick of carrying the kit bag!
Benefit Game
A moist, green c0ck hanging out at KWC is always a scary sight to behold, and generally gets the attention of the child protection agency. On this occasion however, it was all in a good cause as the ever enthusiastic Tom DC took a drenching to raise some cash for Mark Lean and the Haiti Disaster. Thanks to all those who turned up to watch the game and who generously risked their lives by eating Mrs Widge’s ‘baking’ efforts. It was like being on an episode of the Vicar of Dibley. If there wasn’t mustard in the chocolate brownies, I’ll eat my own underpants – which would actually be preferable to most of what was served up! Hey Sara, I wouldn’t be in the slightest bit surprised if everyone started calling you Letitia Cropley, the queen of Cordon Bleurgh!
I don’t have the final tally but I’m led to believe we raised in excess of the £250 mark, so I expect to see Mr Lean’s ride well pimped next time I see him – Boolaka!.
Thanks again everybody…especially the 2nds who were obviously in a very charitable mood, and thought it would be good to try and let the 1sts match the pounds raised with points scored.

Another Scrounger
As if the Southern Nomads SPort Erin weren’t bad enough, always trying to get their grubby little paws on your hard earned cash, we now have a breakaway group of individuals “doin it” for some good cause or other. The latest in this long line of cyber-beggars is Pete Richards who is running the London Marathon this year for St Johns Ambulance, and as such, is looking to raise as much as he possibly can for them [I have to express my bitter disappointment at this lack of loyalty to our very own Southern Nomads SPort Erin].
Pete and St Johns would greatly appreciate your support, and if you would like to give, then Pete has a donation site set up on www.justgiving.com/peterrichards-marathon2010.
Do what you can guys, it’s a very worthy cause, of which the Leans, Caines and Bugs make use from time-to-time.
Rugby Red-Tape
Just heard from the Bag of Doom that even if you’ve already done the online Rugby Ready course, you still have to do the 3 hour classroom session in order to be eligible for participation on the Level 1 coaching coarse. So if you’re down to do that, make sure you get yourself on the Rugby Ready course which will be run on 29th March at Douglas Rugby club 18:00-21:00.
Nomads will cover the cost of this and the Level 1 course on the condition that entrants intend to coach at Nomads either at senior OR youth/kids level. Of course this does not exclude anyone from funding this course themselves.
Please note that the application date is 19th March and if there are any issue with paying by this date (today) please let Parksy know.

3rd April: Charity Race Night at Rowany. See here for details – http://www.southernnomads.com/?page_id=411 and get buying/selling some horses.
Well, I’m off to work up a thirst for tonight. The boiler’s going to see Hula-Hoop, so it looks like I’ll be available for a little bachelor fun tonight, unlike Damo who’s probably got to clean the sink or something.
Youth Changes this Weekend
Please note that the youth under 12 & under 13 games on the 21st March are now at Vaga’s at 2pm.
No Date 12/03/10
This Weeks Fixtures
There are no league or cup fixtures this weekend, so we are taking this opportunity to host a Nomads 1sts v Emerging Nomads benefit match, the proceeds of which are to be split between the Haiti Disaster Fund, and our very own Mark Lean. Mark, who suffered a horrendous back injury in a Nomads game a few weeks ago, is now out of hospital, but still unable to walk unaided and remains in a significant amount of pain. We wish young Mark a speedy recovery and hope you will all come down to KWC on Saturday at 2:15 to cheer on the boys, and dig deep to make this a successful event.
Sorry for the short notice, but a gap in the fixtures emerged, and we took it.
Parksy has some wonderful fund raising ideas ‘guaranteed’ to add some spice to the day, so get there early – I recommend 1:30 – to ensure you can get a piece of the action!
See you all there.
Nowt fot yoof this weekend, so please come down to support the game at KWC on Saturday.
Hirsty’s 60th
You will all be shocked and stunned to hear that Thirsty Hirsty has made it to the ripe old age of 60. He keeps telling me he’s only 50, but once the Alzheimer’s kicks in, it’s difficult to remember what age you are. Anyway, he’s given me this message to pass on to you all:
“Hello everybody. Now that I’m 50…or is it 60?, I’ve decided to spend some of the thousands of pounds I’ve been hiding away from my wife Sally in my Nomads account for all these years. I’m having a beer or two at the Albert on Thursday 1st April to celebrate my birthday and would love to see you all there. As I’m now 60….or is it 50?, I’m having a few beers one night. It’s bank holiday the next day so we’ll have a few beers at the Albert for my birthday. Did I tell you I’m 60 soon. Or am I 50? Anyway, it doesn’t matter, but can you let everyone know that as it’s my birthday soon, I’m having some beers at the Albert on Thursday 1st April. Hey, we’re not at work the next day, shall we have some beers at the Albert that night. That would be cool ‘cos it’s also my birthday around then. I think I’ll be 50……..”.
Race Night
Rushen Round Table have joined forces with Southern Nomads SPort Erin to organise a Race Night on Saturday 3rd April at Rowany Golf Club in aid of SPort Erin’s sponsorship of the CRHS 1st team rugby strip and the IOM College Hardship Fund. We haven’t had any SPort Erin fundraisers for a little while, so let’s all get behind this and make it a good ‘un!

Anyone unfamiliar with the Race Night concept, we need to punt Jockey’s, Trainers and Owners for each of the horses on a race card to your friends, work colleagues, relatives for £2, £3 and £5 respectively before the night itself. The Owner also gets to name their horse, preferably something amusing for the guy to read out on the night! On the night itself, each race card is allocated a race and the winner of the race is the winner on the card, with the Jockey, Trainer and Owner of the winning horse getting the following cash prizes:-
Owner (£5 bet) - £20 win
Trainer (£3) - £12 win
Jockey (£2) – £8 win.
There’s also a Tote and we will be taking bets on the night for each race, so you have a chance to win some money! Please come along with your mates on the 3rd and if everyone can also sell a race card before the night that would be grand!
Contact Steve Bridson on 403320 or Tim George from RRT on 462882.
