Err….I think it’s the Manx Cup Final at Ramsey. Are we in it? Don’t bother replying as I’ll be otherwise engaged in beach and beer shenanigans.
Yoof. Doin’ nowt.

See you all at 05:00 at the Bay. Don’t forget your passport….for Spain, not the Bay.

Autumn Investec Internationals – November 2010
We are applying for our allocation of International tickets for the autumn internationals as follows:
6 November England vs. New Zealand Kick off 2.30pm
13 November England vs. Australia Kick off 2.30pm
27 November England vs. South Africa Kick off 2.30pm
We only get a limited allocation of 6 tickets to each match (4x£73 & 2x£54) though we can request a further allocation which will be based on demand. I have to apply for these extras at the same time as accepting our usual allocation and in the usual RFU style I have a very short timeframe in which to do this. Therefore I ask that if you wish to put your name down for any of these matches please email mail@southernnomads.com by Friday, 7th May. I remind you that demand for certain matches may be high so you will stand a better chance of winning a ticket if you are flexible about which games you want to attend.
Let’s Rock
Please reserve the afternoon and evening of Saturday 29th May for this year’s Pub Golf….err…I mean AGM.
We’ll be teeing off from 13:00 at Rowany Golf Club. Plus fours and Pringles are compulsory and I’m sure Sevvy de C0ck will have organised a course, score cards and worked out all the Pars by then.
As a warm up to the main event, we’ll be having a few beers in the back room of the golf club, but still need nominations to fill any of the available committee positions which are up for grabs….that’s all of them. We’re not an old farts club, and new blood is always welcome.
See you on the other side….anybody got anything for a dickey-tummy and runny-bottom?
Nomads No Date 23/4/10
Bushy’s Great South Run
It’s a bit short notice but there’s a Southern Nomads SPort Erin event next week. Dig out your hi-viz vests, ‘cos the Bushy’s Great South Run is back in town.
It has been judiciously planned for a Tuesday to avoid the authorities calling a halt to it using a rarely exercised law which states that “any event which is fun, must be kyboshed… unless it’s on a Tuesday night”.
The racing starts at 7, so please get your carcases down to the Bay PE for 6:30, so our marshalling coordinators can allocate your race positions.
Drop Tom a text to confirm your availability… or suffer the consequences of a personal communicocktion from the man himself….you have been warned!

Hey Bobbit, you can afford a decent haircut for Tour!
Andy talking of which…
Tour
‘T’ minus 7 and counting.
The fancy dress websites and charity shops won’t know what’s hit them as 21 grown men, and a slightly stunted Tom Guy, frantically search out baby-grows and flip-flops.
I’ve told the Icelandic authorities to keep their crap out of our airspace next weekend, so I think that’s that one sorted. If only arranging a match was as easy as altering the course of nature, then poor old Thirsty might be able to tell us who we’re playing! Do you want me to have a word with the Spanish RFU Rob?
Off Season Training
It has been suggested that you’re all a bunch of exercise-shy, lard-buckets during the off season, and that a bit of movement over the summer wouldn’t hurt our chances next season! A bit harsh Gaff, but you’re probably right.
To keep you in trim, might I suggest you enter the Isle of Man Marathon or Half Marathon to give you a bit of incentive to get your fat carcasses off the couch?
It’s on Sunday 8th August at 09:00 and details can be found here: www.marathon.iomvac.co.uk
This Week’s Fixtures
It’s the Manx Cup Semi-Final on Saturday.
The green-machine heads to the big smoke to play Douglas 1sts, and show them what we’ve got. A bit of support would be most welcome, so please join them in their quest for silverware. Alternatively, you can pop down to the jewellers on Strand Street at about 03:27 on Sunday morning, and join Scouse Dave in his own personal quest for silverware.
Yoof
It’s the big one on Sunday! Yes, the Yoof Grand Final and Presentation at Douglas has finally arrived. The published kick-off times are on the website, but don’t forget to check the Breaking News over the weekend, as I hear a rumour that Douglas Yoof have gone on Tour! Are they using our fixtures secretary? Only joking Rob, we all know what a sterling job you do….and speaking of which…
AGM
It’s only 5 weeks away and I cordially invite nominations for the posts up for grabs. That’s all of them!
The committee consists of the following posts:
President
Chairman
Secretary
Treasurer
1st Team Captain
1st Team Vice Captain
2nd Team Captain
2nd Team Vice Captain
Coaching Co-Ordinator
Fixtures Secretary
Social Secretary
Rugby Development Officer
Public Relations Officer
If you would like to stand for any of these, especially Secretary, then drop me a line. This includes the current incumbents, who should let me know if they intend to stand, or step-down. Yes, I know Ginge has bottled it.
Dates for the Diary
27th April : Bushy’s 10K. Marshals required please.
30th April – 3rd May : TOUR. Wey-hey.
29th May : AGM at Rowany Golf Club. Starts at 13:00 to allow an early start for the pub golf. Dust off your Plus Fours and Pringles. Tom? You organising this or what?
12th June : Players Dinner at the Falcon.
3rd July : Annual Presentation Dinner at the Hydro in Douglas.
11th December : Christmas Bash at the Falcon
No geeky quiz this week as last week’s was obviously above your intellectual threshold. Bit of a clue: the first digit refers to the main heading.

This Week’s Fixtures
Seniors
Vagabonds B vs Nomads 1sts (Trophy)…hurry or you’ll miss the kickoff!
Yoof
Apologies for my gaff last week (and I don’t mean our esteemed coach… he’s as much your gaff as mine, and no amount of apologising would make up for what he’s done). I mistakenly stated that we had already reached the end of the yoof season. Chris “picky, picky, picky” Till, corrected me on that matter, reminding me that we still have the Grand Final on Sunday 25th April at Douglas Rugby Club.
The published agenda is…
Under 11s, and below KO 12 noon
Under 12s and 13s KO 13.30
Under 14s and 15s KO 15.00
Under 16s and 17s KO 16.30
….but I’ll let you know if that changes…assuming somebody lets me know!
Tour
‘T’ minus 13 days and counting!
If you haven’t received your tour letter from old Ginger-Beard, now’s the time to pin him down and demand satisfaction.
If you haven’t booked the Friday off work, then you need to do that soon, as a 05:00 start in the boozer is not conducive to a day at the office. If you’ve any sense, you’ll also need to take off Tuesday 4th May, as a mild dose of the Hee-Bee-Gee-Bees mixed with a liberal helping of DTs don’t help your ability to operate heavy machinery or perform delicate traffic manouvers.
Last Week’s Geek of the Week…
….was unsurprisingly Neal Kelly, who humiliated Damo and Don into 2nd and 3rd respectively.
2 3 8, 4 1 2, 2 1 23, 2 2 1, 4 6 21, 2 2 18, 4 1 10, 4 7 54, 4 4 43, 2 3 69, 2 2 22, 2 2 18, 4 3 130
Dates for the Diary
They’re all on the website, but in case you’re a cyber-doofer, here they are:
30th April – 3rd May : TOUR
29th May : AGM at Rowany Golf Club. Followed by a round of pub golf. I suspect Plus Fours and Pringles are the order of the day?
12th June : Players Dinner at the Falcon. Brace yourself Mike, I think I see Father Abraham coming over the horizon.
3rd July : Annual Presentation Dinner at the Hydro in Douglas.
11th December : Christmas Bash at the Falcon
And that’s yer lot for this week, other than to reassure everyone that Mrs Widge, categorically did NOT smash her own kids head into the mantelpiece to stop her beating up Mr Widge.
No Date Error
In this week’s No Date (8/4/10), I mistakenly reported that the Yoof have no more games.
Not true!
The Grand Final knock out is still scheduled to take place on Sunday 25th April – see the Youth Fixtures page for details.
Parking at Poulsom on Saturday
Please note the following from Castletown:
‘Can you drop Nomads a quick email and ask them and their supporters not to park in the railway station or the Viking pub car parks this Saturday. The Steam trains have started running again and the station master gets a bit upset when people park all over the place. We have had to stop games in the past to move cars.’
No Date 8/4/10
Old Scores
Calling all Nomads coffin-dodgers. Just because the invalidity benefit fraud officers haven’t been around for a while, doesn’t mean it’s safe to put away the zimmer!
The Nomads Vets press-gang are far more tenacious, and have night vision goggles! You’ve been spotted: down the gym (Spunky), jogging along Bay View Road in the dead of night (Chicken Legs), or falling out of the Falcon…again… (Tenko), and now we know you can walk, you have no excuse for not talking one for the team this Saturday.
In order to say “farewell” to their old pitch, Vagas are having a Vets Friendly this weekend, Saturday 10th April at Glencrutchery Road… vets? friendly? Have they lost their minds Father Jack?
The intention is to stage a Vagabonds Vets v IoM Select XV, and they have expressed how delighted they would be if Nomads were represented in the auspicious guest line-up.
If you’re up for it, and can remember what Rugby is, meet at Vagas at 12 noon for a 12:30 kick off.
I’m not sure what qualifies for a ‘vet’ these days, but I’m fairly certain Thirsty makes the cut, along with anyone else who drinks mild, smokes a pipe or has ever administered a fatal injection to a house pet (excluding ASBO Josh obviously).
So come on all you gimmers… get on your ear-trumpets (or however you communicate with each other) and get a convoy of bath-chairs heading for the big smoke on Saturday.
Oh, and if you could contact Alf Cannan on 363835 to let him know you’re going, he’ll be able to get some oxygen and defibrillators ready for your arrival.
Forever Strong
Unless I’m wrong (and I very rarely am except when Thirsty has feeds me duff information….and he often does, the poor old feller), the only less-senior match this weekend is:
Castletown v Emerging Nomads in the Bowl.
Unless it’s another stretcher-fest Widge, I’m struggling to see how you’ll compete for the crowds against the carnage which is likely to ensue at Glencrutchery! Maybe free fags and booze on the sidelines, or some of the those delicious melon and beef dripping cup-cakes served up by your delicious wife?
School Wars
Nowt fo’t yoof – season’s over – so you can all go chavin’ round Douglas on Saturday afternoon….or better still, get down to Pulsom and watch the vets of the future giving Castletown a good kickin’.
Something for the Geeks
My powers of foresight are already telling me to say “Congratulations Mr Kelly, and I’m sorry for compelling you to spend time on this pointless exercise”.
Enjoy the weekend and the rest of your lives (as short as those might be vets)…and don’t forget to check out the up-coming events on the website at http://www.southernnomads.com/?page_id=64
Easter Rugby 7s
The Easter Rugby 7’s competition is on Sunday 4th April at Vagas (by the Grand Stand).
Registration is at 11:30.
All are welcome and you should bring beer and food. In addition, we will have a BBQ set up. A fun day for all.
