No Date 23/7/10

Well, the biggest news of the week is obviously that Drunken Al, although still a complete and utter bilge-pump where ale is concerned, is now also a sensible, mature, married man!
Sincere congratulation to both Al and Laura (and Fin) from all at Southern Nomads.  We wish you all the very best for the future.  Good luck with that Laura!

Err….Slight Cock-Up

Those of you who travelled to the Summer Ball on the luxurious coach laid on by Tom de C0ck, will no doubt remember two things of note.  Number one : What a pleasant, friendly and accommodating coach driver we had.  No he wasn’t!  You were pissed!  Number two : The transport was free.  No it wasn’t.  I was pissed!
In my excitement on the evening in question, not only did I wet my trousers like a puppy dog about to go walkies, but I also appear to have been a little remiss and failed to collect the requisite monies to cover the cost of said carriage.  You will remember that the website announcement of the event made mention of the additional funding required, and so….. please cough up.

If you were on the coach for the Presentation Dinner, please can you pay £6 per head to either myself, Loss Paddock, or Tom de C0ck as soon as possible, so that Ginge can stop spinning in his ex-Treasurers grave.  Many thanks.  You will be rewarded in Heaven for your honesty.

Call-to-Arms

This is Little Jimmy Osland’s first event as Nomads Volunteer Coordinator, so please get behind her (oo-err missus).  It’s a thankless task trying to rouse you bunch of foppish ne’er-do-wells into life, so please make an effort to help without having to be dragged, kicking and screaming from your pit.

The Law is an Ass

Well not always, but if you wish to make up your own mind, then take a look at the latest changes to the law as it applies to our beautiful game.  I see that the RFU have finally recognised the special needs of the pack, and have thoughtfully provided videos, explaining what would otherwise go over the heads of our esteemed forwards by use of the written word alone.

Enjoy: http://www.rfu.com/TakingPart/Referee/LatestLawUpdates.aspx

Membership Fees

Hey Boys (and Girls),

As the beginning of the season is a mere 2 months (or so) away it’s time to start paying Subs for the upcoming season.
That is £20 quid for non-playing membership and an extra £70 quid on top to be a player (that’s £90 for players!!!).
If you are on DD then this is covered and you do not need to worry about it.
If not please pay me (Vaughan), Ian Hargreaves (1st team captain), Simon Phythian (2nd team captain), Casey Davies (Coach) or any other Committee member (details available on the website – http://www.southernnomads.com

Please make cheques payable to Southern Nomads RUFC, Cash is also most welcome.
If you do not have a direct debit and would like to set one up to spread the cost of your membership over the year please let Vaughan know.
Vaughan will come round with the forms and sort it out, It will only take ten minutes and the cost is £10 a month which is much nicer than paying £90 all in one go.

You can also print your own form and fill it out in advance to save Vaughan the trouble.  Forms are here: http://www.southernnomads.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Nomads-member-application-form-2010.pdf

Annual Dinner

Well, if you didn’t get your application in for a ticket by close of play last night….you’ve missed it!
You were warned, so don’t go crying to Daddy Cush like the big baby you are.

For those who booked a place on the coach, you need to be at the Cherry for 6:30 tomorrow night (or earlier if you fancy a pre-sharra pint with the real men).
For those too tight to pay an extra few quid, get your carcasses to the Hydro for about 7:15.
And for those who pretended not to know it was on – RTFWS!!!

Dickie really has promised to keep his ramblings to a minimum and have you all dancing by 11:55, and I promise to keep my tackle under control this year so no need to bring gauntlets and welding mask girls.

See you there.

Queenie Festival

A quick reminder about this year’s Queenie festival on the 9th, 10th & 11th of July.

  • Friday 9th July – Beach Party PE
Watty and T-Bone are helping to organize beach volleyball for the nights sponsors, Sure.  Get yourself down for a couple of warm-up beers and perhaps organize a Nomads beach volleyball team to compete on the night?!
  •  Saturday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m – Marine Day PSM
Nomads are running a bar on the Albert Pier (idiots, asylum, in-charge of etc) – Don is assuming the role of bar manager for the day and is organising a motley crew to help out on the day.
Once again, Nomads are organising a Park and Ride from the Stonefield down to the Quay.  Catty and Steve are in charge of this and once again will organise some helpers.  This involves parking cars in the field and driving a minibus down to and back from the Albert, which is the main pick-up point.
  • Saturday evening – Herring Dance in the Stonefield PSM
Security – Widget is organising security and will need 6/7 budding meat-heads.
Bar – T-Bone is organising this with Kerry Kelly and will require some budding busty barmaids and chaps (busty or not!) to help out.
Tickets for this are on sale at £12.50 for those NOT assisting and the bar sales go to Nomads.  Tickets will go quickly over the weekend so get your order in now.
  • Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m - Marine Day PSM Part 2!
Albert Pier bar – Fish is the bar manager on this day and is getting some of his open water swimmers to help out, but may need a couple of extra bodies.
Park and Ride – Damo and Neal are in charge of this and will organise more people to help out.

Dates for the Diary

3rd July: Annual Presentation Dinner
9th-11th July: Queenie Festival
29th August: Nomads Golf Day – entries to Watty please.

Can’t say more this week as I need to get back to fixing counting the votes for this year’s awards.
