Holders PDMS Southern Nomads set out their stall for the new season with a clinical display at Ballafletcher edging out Vagabonds B 22-5.
After two early Johnny Beckley penalty misses, it was Nomads who took the lead on twenty two minutes. Using clean line out ball, Harry Brereton smashed into the Vagas midfield. The ball was recycled quickly and moved left where centre Conor Stephens slipped a tackle and went in for the opening score.

With the final play of the first half, Nomads extended their lead. Adam Young’s half break got Nomads deep into Vagas’ half. Conor Stephens continued the move before popping to Harry Brereton who finished off. Will Cain converted to leave Nomads 12-0 ahead at the interval.

Vagas introduced veteran Bryan Kennaugh after the break and he made an immediate impression by attacking the Nomads half backs to disrupt possession. This gave Vagas some valuable ball and fifteen minutes into the half, Bryn Griffiths deft hands opened up a gap for full back Danny Kane to score and reduce the lead to seven points at 12-5.

With ten to go, both sides were reduced to fourteen. Vagas lost Bryan Kennaugh to the sin bin for a perfectly executed professional foul and he was joined by Nomads youngster Frazer Veale for over enthusiastic remonstration with Kennaugh. The extra space went in Nomads favour and Conor Stephens picked up his second from a quickly tapped penalty.
Steve McHugh ran a late try in for Nomads to ice the cake and Will Cain converted to end the game.
